Welcome to the Australian Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Academy
Welcome to the official website of the Australian Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Academy, the original home of Wado-Ryu Karate in Australia. Since its inception, our organization has been a proud member of the Australian Karate Federation. We have established dojos throughout the Eastern Suburbs of Victoria, Newcastle NSW, and an affiliated dojo in Western Australia.
The Australian Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Academy is an affiliated member of the Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Academy, led by Chief Instructor M. Shiomitsu, 9th Dan Hanshi. Shiomitsu Sensei regularly travels to each affiliated club to conduct courses and gradings, ensuring a uniform standard is maintained across all dojos.
What is Wado-Ryu Karate?
Wado-Ryu Karate is distinguished from other Japanese karate styles by its unique yielding nature, which combines soft energy with sheer, hard force in its techniques. In addition to primary punching and kicking techniques, Wado-Ryu students learn how to use body shifting to neutralize or deflect an attack, causing the attacker to lose balance and become more vulnerable to a counter-attack.
Our Credentials and Commitment
The Australian Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Academy and its affiliated dojos are proud members of the following organizations, with all instructors holding the following qualifications:
- Accredited Level 1 Coaches: All instructors are qualified and accredited as Level 1 coaches through the Australian Sports Commission (ASC).
- International Recognition: All black belt gradings are registered with the International Federation of Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Organizations, Tokyo, Japan.
- Child Safety: All instructors hold current Working with Children Checks.
- First Aid Certified: All instructors possess a current First Aid Certificate.
